Raja Ampat diving liveaboard trip

Raja Ampat in Papua, Indonesia, offers the best tropical diving anywhere on our planet – and by some way. There are more species of coral here than anywhere else and both the sheer quantities of fish and the diversity of species is staggering. I’ve had the pleasure of diving these waters a few times and there is one small drawback I should warn you about now. Raja Ampat spoils you – it blows all other diving out of the water. But hey ho we can live with this I think !? For this trip we are chartering the gorgeous Shakti boat as our liveaboard for a ten day trip. Shakti has  been permanently based in Raja Ampat since 2002 and has done more dives in this region than any other boat by some degree. Hugely experienced dive guides will take us to the best dive sites which many other boats don’t even know about. Myself and Michal Kahn are both Divemasters and we’ll be on board too to help out where needed along with providing a pretty damn fine array of music and films ! We’ll sail near some of the most beautiful karst limestone coastal scenery in the world where virgin rainforests meet coral gardens. It will take your breath away.

“Every dive is special in Raja Ampat but some are just so over-the-top that you come out of the water giggling at the insanity of it all. On one dive at Cape Kri on my last visit even our local dive guides were blown away. This place is how our oceans should be – bubbling with fish. ” Ian Wood

Itinerary

September 8th to 17th 2018

Day 1 – September 8th 2018 – The Shakti is the only boat actually based in Raja Ampat waters which means that we’ll dive on our first day there. (Other boats depart from Sorong and the first day is spent getting to Raja Ampat). We will take the fast ferry from Sorong to Waisai in Raja Ampat which departs Sorong at 9am. It’s strongly recommended that you arrive Sorong on 7th September and we recommend you book the Swissbell hotel Sorong where we can all meet and start to get excited about what lies ahead. Arrive Waisai 11 am where we’ll be met straight from the ferry by speedboat to be taken to the Shakti which will be moored nearby. Lunch on board  with a briefing and then we’ll start diving that very afternoon.

Days 2-9 – At least 3 dives a day for those who want to (plus night dives available too) in Raja Ampat’s most incredible dive sites. On board we’ll eat lovely food together freshly prepared by our chef. We’ll also have a great selection of music and films (what a great place to re-watch Blue Planet !?) to entertain ourselves under the starlit skies.

Day 10 – September 17th 2018 – Depart Waisai on fast ferry for Sorong at 9 am arriving there at 11 m. Either onward travel or a thorough de-brief in the hotel bar in Sorong before flying out the following day. If flying on 17th Sep please make sure your flight departs after 6 pm to leave 24 hours from our last dive the previous day.
