Huge thanks to everyone who came on my November 2025 Komodo manta ray snorkelling tour. We had such a magical time both on our gorgeous live aboard boat and on land. I’ll start with a brief video clip of some of our highlights. Information about future Komodo snorkelling tours can be found here.
Komodo snorkelling tour highlights
We spent five days on our boat sailing around Komodo national park. These waters still have lovely coral, teeming with life. Along with regular dips in the water to snorkel we also visited Komodo and Rinca islands in search of Komodo dragons.
Bird life was good including this Osprey which came and landed on our mast along with plenty of white bellied sea eagles.
Komodo island is a very reliable place for sightings of yellow crested cockatoos.
Black naped orioles and collared kingfishers are common here enabling us to get really bad bird on stick photos. 😊 😊 😊
Komodo tour Wae Rebo village
And then after returning to the mainland we explored Flores island with an overnight stay at the enchanting Wae Rebo village. Nestled in the rain forest at a height of 1200 metres, a spiritual vision guided the people who founded Wae Rebo to settle here. An absolute privilege to spend time with them.
Our journey then took us to Ruteng to visit two very special caves. Liang Galang cave is of huge spiritual significance to the local population and we were invited to a ceremony with them before exploring the cave.
Quite close to Liang Galang lies Liang Bua cave which is where an extraordinary discovery was made in 2003 by archaeologists. They found remains of Homo Floresiensis – often referred to as Hobbits – which challenged our understanding of human evolution. A small-bodied, small-brained Hominin that made tools and hunted animals like Stegodons which are an extinct mammal similar to elephants.
Finally we walked up a hill to get some lovely views over the spider web rice fields before returning to Labuan Bajo for our last meal together before we went our separate ways the following day. I’m missing you all already.
